Cardboard profiles are cut and secured vertically to set the desired cross section of the scene. 1" verticle strips of cardboard are glued to follow this profile. Hot melt glue is used to bond the strips and momentarily held with clamps.
Horizontal strips are then laced and secured in the same way. The start of a tunnel can be seen here.
A view of the other side of the tunnel. Note that painter's green masking tape (low tack) is used to cover the rails and ties to protect them from spilled plaster.
Hydrocal is mixed and paper towels dipped into the soup and laid over the laced forms.
A view of the tunnel and upper track is seen in progress. The holes along the forground river bed are concealed speakers for river sounds from Miller Models.
Rubber mould filled with Plaster of Paris (quick-set) is now being placed onto the hardshell.
The tunnel walls and ceiling were made of castings also inverted on a table and set into place when dry. Rockwork can be seen progressing ready for staining.
Hardshell has been laid over the cardboard forms and plywood deck where the sheep pens will be located.
Another view of the falls being filled in with hardshell.
The track will enter a tunnel after leaving the Cascade Trestle.
View down the yard tracks of Windy Windrim 's gold mine. A Howe deck truss will soon be built to cross the Animas River and mainline.
